Goetzl (1978) observed families with very low eosinophil counts. Goetzl (1989) then observed a total of 4 families, in each of which only 1 individual was affected. Two of these patients were reported by Nakahata et al. (1984), who showed that acquired IgG antibodies to eosinophils were responsible. There is no support for a specific mendelian basis.
