Mental Retardation, X-Linked 81

Clinical Features

Annunziata et al. (2003) reported an Italian family in which 9 males in 2 generations had nonspecific moderate to severe mental retardation.

Mapping

In an Italian family in which 9 males in 2 generations had nonspecific mental retardation, Annunziata et al. (2003) found linkage of the disorder to the pericentromeric region of the X chromosome. Haplotype construction delineated an 8-cM critical region for the locus, which they designated MRX81, at Xp11.2-q12 between DXS1039 and DXS1216.

Molecular Genetics

Exclusion Studies

Annunziata et al. (2003) excluded 2 candidate genes for MRX81: oligophrenin-1 (300127) and ephrin-B1 (300035).
