Localized lichen myxedematosus (LM) with mixed features of different subtypes is a form of atypical lichen myxedematosus (see this term), characterized by mixed features of the 5 subtypes of localized LM which are: discrete papular LM, acral persistent papular mucinosis, self-healing papular mucinosis, papular mucinosis of infancy, and nodular LM (see these terms).

Epidemiology

Localized LM with mixed features of different subtypes is a rare disease and to date only a few cases have been described in the literature.

Clinical description

The disease affects middle age adults and manifests with mixed features of the 5 subtypes of localized LM (discrete papular LM, acral persistent papular mucinosis, self-healing papular mucinosis, papular mucinosis of infancy, and nodular LM). One case is reported as having features of both acral persistent papular mucinosis and self-healing juvenile cutaneous mucinosis (see this term) with carpal tunnel syndrome.

Etiology

As all primitive mucinosis, the pathogenesis of localized LM with mixed features of different subtypes is still unknown.
