Poultry Allergy
Wikipedia
Poultry meat allergy is a rare food allergy in humans caused by consumption of poultry meat (commonly chicken and turkey ) whereby the body triggers an immune reaction and becomes overloaded with immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies. [1] [2] It can co-occur with egg allergy but more often occurs without allergy to poultry eggs. [3] [4] [5] One study found that chicken and turkey meat are the primary cause of allergic reactions, whilst goose, pheasant, and duck meat cause milder reaction or no symptoms. [6] Epidemiology [ edit ] As it is a rare condition and it is not well documented; epidemiological data is unknown. [7] Severe cases have been documented. [8] A research study in 2016 found only 16 cases of previously published poultry meat allergy, plus an additional 28 cases that were being analyzed in the study. [9] Symptoms [ edit ] Symptoms are similar to other forms of allergies and occur after ingestion of the allergen.

Nissenblatt (1978) reported a young woman with hypoplastic right heart syndrome who developed a carotid body tumor at age 28 years. He suggested a connection between low-oxygen situations such as high altitude living, emphysema, and cyanotic congenital heart disease, and the development of carotid body tumors. ... Among 47 asymptomatic carriers of SDHD mutations screened by physical examination or MRI, Heesterman et al. (2013) found that 28 (59.6%) carried a total of 57 tumors, including 38 carotid body tumors, 17 vagal body tumors, and 2 jugulotympanic tumors. ... Examination of relatives yielded a total of 32 and 34 manifesting carriers of SDHB and SDHD mutations, respectively. Multiple tumors occurred in 28% of SDHB carriers and 74% of SDHD carriers; adrenal pheochromocytomas occurred in 28% of SDHB carriers and 53% of SDHD carriers, whereas extraadrenal pheochromocytomas were identified in 48% of SDHB carriers and 21% of SDHD carriers; head and neck paragangliomas occurred in 31% of SDHB carriers and 79% of SDHD carriers; and malignancy occurred in 34% of SDHB carriers but no SDHD carriers. ... Abortion In Washington
Wikipedia
Wade era. [19] Still, state law in 1971 required that any woman getting a legal abortion in the state needed to be a resident for some specific period between 30 and 90 days. [18] As of 2017, Washington State, New Mexico, Illinois, Alaska, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Jersey allow qualified non-physicians to prescribe drugs for medical abortions only. [20] In August 2018, the state had a law to protect the right to have an abortion. [21] In February 2019, the Washington State Attorney General issued an opinion that the physician-only clause of Washington State abortion law (I-120) was unenforceable, and that aspiration and medication abortion prior to viability was within the scope of nurse practitioners and physician assistants. [22] As of May 14, 2019, the state prohibited abortions after the fetus was viable, generally some point between week 24 and 28. This period uses a standard defined by the US Supreme Court in 1973 with the Roe v. ... Wade in their decision. [27] Clinic history [ edit ] See also: Abortion clinic Between 1982 and 1992, the number of abortion clinics in the state declined by thirty, going from 95 in 1982 to 65 in 1992. [28] In 2014, there were 33 abortion clinics in the state. [29] In 2014, 64% of the counties in the state did not have an abortion clinic. That year, 15% of women in the state aged 15 – 44 lived in a county without an abortion clinic. [21] In March 2016, there were 35 Planned Parenthood clinics in the state. [30] In 2017, there were 34 Planned Parenthood clinics in a state with a population of 1,645,293 women aged 15 – 49 of which 26 offered abortion services. [31] Statistics [ edit ] In 1990, 606,000 women in the state faced the risk of an unintended pregnancy. [28] In 2014, 60% of adults said in a poll by the Pew Research Center that abortion should be legal in all or most cases. Food and Drug Administration under the Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act both demonstrated that imiquimod cream applied three times per week was no more effective than placebo cream for treating molluscum after 18 weeks of treatment in a total of 702 children aged 2–12 years. [28] In 2007, results from those trials—which remain unpublished—were incorporated into FDA-approved prescribing information for imiquimod, which states: "Limitations of Use: Efficacy was not demonstrated for molluscum contagiosum in children aged 2–12." [28] [29] In 2007, the FDA also updated imiquimod's label concerning safety issues raised in the two large trials and an FDA-requested pharmacokinetic study (the latter of which was published). [28] The updated safety label reads as follows: Potential adverse effects of imiquimod use: "Similar to the studies conducted in adults, the most frequently reported adverse reaction from 2 studies in children with molluscum contagiosum was application site reaction. ... Severe local skin reactions reported by Aldara-treated subjects in the pediatric studies included erythema (28%), edema (8%), scabbing/crusting (5%), flaking/scaling (5%), erosion (2%) and weeping/exudate (2%)." Tertiary Hyperparathyroidism
Wikipedia
These changes involve proto-oncogene expression and activation of proliferative pathways while inactivating apoptotic pathways. [28] In nodular parathyroid tissue increased expression of TGF-a, a growth factor, and EGFR, its receptor, results in aggressive proliferation and further downregulation of vitamin D receptors, which act to suppress hormone secretions. [25] [8] [28] Furthermore, the proliferative marker, Ki67 is seen to be highly expressed in the secondary nodular hyperplastic state. [28] [25] Tumour suppressor genes have also been highlighted as being silenced or degraded in nodular hyperplastic parathyroid tissue. [8] [28] One such gene, p53, has been shown to regulate multiple tumour suppressor pathways and in tumorigenesis can be degraded by b-catenin. This pathway, in some aspect, is mediated by CACYBP, which is highly expressed in nodular parathyroid hyperplasia. [28] Treatment [ edit ] See also: parathyroidectomy Early pharmaceutical treatment for tertiary hyperparathyroidism may include supplementing vitamin D and the use of cinacalcet . [4] [1] [29] Cinacalcet acts to increase the sensitivity of the calcium sensing receptors to calcium leading to a reduction in parathyroid hormone release, however, its use has limited impact in those with tertiary hyperparathyroidism. [29] These treatments are more likely only transient therapies before parathyroidectomy is performed.

Religious Delusion
Wikipedia
In 2011, a team of psychiatrists , behavioral psychologists , neurologists and neuropsychiatrists from the Harvard Medical School published a research which suggested the development of a new diagnostic category of psychiatric disorders related to religious delusion and hyperreligiosity . [25] They compared the thought and behavior of the most important figures in the Bible ( Abraham , Moses , Jesus Christ and Paul ) [25] with patients affected by mental disorders related to the psychotic spectrum using different clusters of disorders and diagnostic criteria ( DSM-IV-TR ), [25] and concluded that these Biblical figures "may have had psychotic symptoms that contributed inspiration for their revelations", [25] such as schizophrenia , schizoaffective disorder , manic depression , delusional disorder , delusions of grandeur , auditory - visual hallucinations , paranoia , Geschwind syndrome (Paul especially) and abnormal experiences associated with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). [25] In 1998–2000 Pole Leszek Nowak (born 1962) [26] from Poznań authored a study in which, based on his own history of religious delusions of mission and overvalued ideas, and information communicated in the Gospels, made an attempt at reconstructing Jesus′ psyche [27] with the view of Jesus as apocalyptic prophet . Intrauterine Hypoxia
Wikipedia
Eclampsia seizures could lead to uncontrollable twitching and a loss of consciousness, which could potentially lead to the death of the mother and or the baby. [23] Treatment [ edit ] Treatment of infants suffering birth asphyxia by lowering the core body temperature is now known to be an effective therapy to reduce mortality and improve neurological outcome in survivors, and hypothermia therapy for neonatal encephalopathy begun within 6 hours of birth significantly increases the chance of normal survival in affected infants. [ citation needed ] There has long been a debate over whether newborn infants with birth asphyxia should be resuscitated with 100% oxygen or normal air. [24] It has been demonstrated that high concentrations of oxygen lead to generation of oxygen free radicals , which have a role in reperfusion injury after asphyxia. [25] Research by Ola Didrik Saugstad and others led to new international guidelines on newborn resuscitation in 2010, recommending the use of normal air instead of 100% oxygen. [26] [27] Increasing the oxygen concentration to the mother has shown little effect on the fetus as hyperoxygenated blood does not perfuse the placental exchange site well. [28] Underlying etiology of intrauterine hypoxia serves as a potential therapeutic target. ...
